The first major funnel of the 2021 Iowa Legislative Session is at the end of this week, which means the next four days are the final chances for policy bills to be considered this spring.

Representative Dustin Hite says an education bill proposed by Governor Kim Reynolds in January and quickly passed on partisan lines in the Iowa Senate has been broken down into three major components: student-first scholarships for students to attend private schools in struggling districts, a similar bill that would redirect a students’ attached per pupil state aid to public charter schools, and other provisions tied to open enrollment and athletic eligibility.

Hite says his district is unique from most in rural Iowa, as he represents several private school districts, including Pella, Peoria, and Oskaloosa Christian Schools, on top of two of the larger rural public school districts in Iowa with Pella and Oskaloosa.
