The calendar flipping to March means the beginning of meteorological spring. State Climatologist Justin Glisan says we are currently in a La Nina pattern, and long term trend that means equal chances of above or below normal precipitation for the state of Iowa — but recently, has meant a typically drier spring. Glisan says with fewer chances for rain and thunderstorms, that generally means lower probably of severe weather events. However, Glisan cautions that climate trends are long term patterns, and not meant to predict daily chances for weather events occurring and that everyone should be ready for the potential of tornadoes and thunderstorms in the coming months. Hear more from Glisan about the upcoming spring season on today’s In Depth with Dr. Bob Leonard.
