Habitat for Humanity of Marion County has two housing projects in the works. The organization has purchased a lot in Knoxville on which they will build a house for a family in need this spring. In Pella, a family has been selected to receive a house, in a location to be determined. Executive Director Robin Pfalzgraf says that volunteers are needed for more than just construction work.
“We of course are looking for people who do construction, but we’re also looking for people who can make a lunch, clean up when the house is done. We look for people who will partner with our homeowners to give them support and encouragement. Owning a home isn’t always natural, and sometimes people come from generations where no one has owned a home, they’ve been generational renters. We look for people who can help with home maintenance, walk them through that. I think with Habitat, there is a spot for everyone.”
Pfalzgraf encourages anyone interested in helping with these projects to contact the organization. Learn more about Habitat for Humanity’s mission on today’s Let’s Talk Knoxville.
