Radar for Severe Thunderstorm Warnings at 5:30 p.m. on 5/14/2020
Severe weather season will soon be in full swing across south central Iowa and the Midwest.
Chad Hahn is the Warning Coordination Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Des Moines, and says Severe Weather Awareness Week in Iowa begins on Monday, March 22nd, and is a time for all residents to be reminded about and learn more of the dangers of tornadoes, severe thunderstorms, and flash flooding during the spring and summer months.
Hahn says the annual Statewide Tornado Drill on Wednesday, March 24th at 11 a.m. is a time to plan for and practice severe weather protocols in the event of warnings.
During the drill, KNIA/KRLS will air a special program highlighting the work of local and state officials during severe weather, and provide details about live coverage in the event of threatening weather in the coming months. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team is on the air live for any severe thunderstorm or tornado warning for any portion of Marion and Warren Counties.
