The Iowa Print Sports Writers Association has selected three local athletes to their elite All-State teams this winter.

Grant Nelson of Pella was a 1st team selection in Class 3A. Nelson was the captain of the 2021 3A All-Tournament team after leading Pella to the school’s third state championship. Nelson finished his senior season with the most three pointers made in Class 3A (85), shooting 44.7% from beyond-the-arc.

Teammate Karl Miller was a 2nd team All-State selection. Miller was also one of Iowa’s best three-point shooters, as his 79 makes was just behind Nelson’s for most in 3A, hitting 42.5% of his attempts. The duo combined to make the Dutch the best three point shooting team in Class 3A.

Knoxville’s Kieren Nichols was a 2nd team All-State honoree in 3A. He has now been recognized three times by the IPSWA, earning 1st team honors as a junior and 3rd team recognition as a sophomore. Nichols finished his career as the second all-time leading scorer in Knoxville boys history with 1,499. His 19.8 points per game ranked as 5th best in the class this winter.
