Blustery winds and soggy fairways got the best of the young Central College men’s golf team in the opening round of the College of the Ozarks Invitational Monday. Taking on the challenging Ozarks National Golf Course, the Dutch turned in a 337, their biggest number of the year in a marathon, seven-hour round. Team standings were not yet available but coach Mel Blasi said Central was not alone seeing scores soar.
Freshman Matt Briggs shot 81, Lucas Wendel had 82, Wyatt Crosby carded an 86, Jacob Moffett shot 88 and Harold Dobernecker had 91. The team’s low round was from an at-large individual, Kyle Gabos who shot 80. Trevor Mabeus had 90 and John Oltman had 99. The tourney concludes today.
