There is a lot of young talent on the Knoxville Girls Track and Field Squad. Coach Michael Splavec tells KNIA/KRLS Sports much of the team will be freshman and sophomores, but he says that is not all bad since they have the chance to show the coaches what they can do early on and maybe nail a varsity spot.

Splavec:
“That’s not a bad thing, we have a lot of kids that are willing to work hard. We have kids that this may be they’re first varsity sports they’ve done, so we’re excited to see what they can do.”

Splavec is happy with the seniors that are out. He says Jalen Nelson will lead the Panthers in the distance events. He says having the seniors around will teach the younger athletes how a track meet goes and what they need to do. The Panthers will get their season underway on April 1st at Clarke.
