The first unemployment data for 2021 was released by Iowa Workforce Development.

In Marion County, 3.5% unemployment was reported in January, which matches the current rate for the entire state. There are 17,500 individuals working, and 610 receiving benefits and seeking work. One year ago, the rate was 2.9% locally.

In Warren County, 4.2% unemployment was reported in January. The labor force is at 27,100 and 1,100 residents are considered unemployed but seeking work. One year ago, the rate was 3.3% locally.

Iowa’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate decreased to 3.5 percent from the revised December rate of 3.7 percent. The state’s jobless rate was 2.8 percent one year ago. The U.S. unemployment rate fell to 6.3 percent in January.
