Celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Iowa Flag are one week away, with events in Knoxville and Des Moines held next Monday, March 29th. Governor Kim Reynolds will read a proclamation in the capitol at 10:30 a.m., and will be presented with materials from the Daughters of the American Revolution organization. T. Waldmann-Williams is part of the organizing committee, and says Knoxville’s event will begin with an official proclamation and musical performance at the Knoxville Public Library.
“At 3:00 on Monday, March 29th, Mayor Hatch will read and sign a proclamation naming the week on behalf of the 100th anniversary. A small ensemble from Knoxville High School is going to perform the official Iowa song, as well as one that was officially written just for the flag.”
The flag was designed by Knoxville native Dixie Gebhardt. Stay tuned to KNIA/KRLS this week for more information and history of the Iowa flag.
