The top of the lineup for the Knoxville Girls Tennis Squad will be experienced, but as the line up gets to the 5th and 6th singles, the Panthers will be a little thin on tennis matches. Coach Nick DeMoss tells KNIA/KRLS Sports, the COVID-19 pandemic shutting down spring sports last season did not help matters, and he says several freshmen and sophomores may get some earlier than normal varsity time due to numbers.
DeMoss:
“Not having last year to help the girls with matches like the other schools have with feeder programs. We’ll do the best we can and hope they don’t get discouraged because they will be playing a lot of upperclassmen this season.”
Senior Alyssa Vaske will likely be DeMoss’s number one singles this season. Others in the mix will be Olivia Maasdam, Josalin McKeever ,and Jaydn Streigle should challenge for varsity spots. DeMoss says after that nearly everyone is new that is either a freshman or sophomore that missed last year due to the season’s cancellation. Knoxville will open the season at home March 30th against Norwalk at the Joel Tonda Tennis Courts.
