A new program debuts in April on Eagle Lane, with the hopes of one day attaining the heights it previously held before it went on hiatus.
Pella Christian Boys Tennis is back for the first time in nine years after a lack of interest in the program ultimately halted a sport with a rich tradition on campus.
Head Coach Aaron Fitzgerald says a group of ten has been enjoying practice and learning the sport, with the aim of building skills and an ability to compete in a limited schedule this season.
Pella Christian had a three year run unmatched by many in Iowa high school boys tennis that started in 1993, and that ended two-and-a-half decades ago. The Eagles placed 3rd in the 1A tournament that year after defeating Red Oak in the consolation finals in the ’93 bracket. That finish sparked an incredible season ahead in 1994, when they won the 1A state championship, and were runners up in 1995.
The 2021 season begins on Tuesday, April 13th vs. Newton.
