Knoxville Girls Basketball Head Coach Jim Uitermarkt was honored by the American Cancer Society Monday afternoon for his efforts in organizing Knoxville Panthers Coaches vs. Cancer. The Champion Award honors coaches who have shown extraordinary leadership and commitment to the American Cancer Society’s mission of saving lives, celebrating lives and leading the fight for a world without cancer. Uitermarkt says that while the award itself is not the goal, he feels honored to be recognized.

“It’s neat, it’s special. It’s certainly not why Angie and I hold the Coaches vs. Cancer event every year, but it’s also a good feeling to be recognized for something you do.”
