The Knoxville Boys Soccer Squad fell to Albia on Thursday 2-1. The Blue Demons struck first nearly two minutes into the match with a goal to make it 1-0, then added another :31 into the second half for a two goal advantage. Knoxville was able to get on the board with a penalty kick by Colby Sandholdt with 27:17 left. The Panthers had a golden opportunity to tie with 3:00 left, but Albia’s goalkeeper made a diving save to take away the chance. Panthers’ Senior Colby Sandholdt tells KNIA/KRLS Sports as the younger players get more experience, the entire team will come together.
Sandholdt:
“Our younger kids step up and get used to varsity, obviously missing their freshman season was big, but once we get flowing again, we’ll be great.”
Knoxville is now 1-2 on the season and will travel to Chariton on Monday. The rest of the Knoxville sports schedule was washed out due to rain that invaded the area. The boys tennis squad only got about five minutes of warm up in Centerville before rains put an end to the night, and the girls got their meet with the Reddetts underway, but a light shower doused any chances of completing action with Knoxville leading 3-1 with singles matches still not yet finished. Today the Panthers boys golfers will host Pleasantville and Carlisle in a triangular at Pine Knolls.
