Earth Day is April 22nd, a day set aside to raise awareness and demonstrate support for environmental protection. Trinity United Presbyterian Church in Indianola is a designated “Earthcare Congregation,” which aims to be active as stewards of the earth in the areas of education, facilities, outreach, and worship. Susan Tinder with Trinity United tells KNIA News the congregation has started a pollinator garden to not only assist the local bee and butterfly population, but to help the youngest members of the community learn more about and respect the Earth and local wildlife.
“I firmly believe we need to take care of our environment. We are all teaching each other and learning from each other how to do that. And many children don’t know where their food comes from. When they go to the grocery store, where do we get broccoli, where do we get carrots. So when we plant things with them, which we have done, and they can see in the gardening we are learning. Many don’t know what a seed looks like and what you do with it. That’s a big important part of our church.”
