The City of Knoxville is reminding residents of a few ordinances as spring continues. Community Service Officer Meredith Clark says that there is a maximum length for grass in lawns, and trees and hedges must not obstruct roadways.
“When it comes to lawn care and mowing, the maximum height of grass and weeds is eight inches in residential areas, 12 inches in undeveloped areas, and 18 inches in the agriculture zoned properties. Trees and hedges that obstruct and impair the view of any public street or alley should also be maintained. When it comes to disposing of organic material, citizens are allowed to burn leaves, twigs and branches, but the burning of garbage is not allowed.”
Any property owners not in compliance with these standards is subject to being fined. Learn more about city codes on an upcoming Let’s Talk Knoxville.
