For the first time since 2018, the Panther relays will happen in Knoxville today. The relays were cancelled due to weather in 2019, and last year nothing happened during the spring because of COVID-19. The girls field will feature three area teams with Pella, Pella Christian and Indianola along with Mount Ayr, Ottumwa, Van Meter, and Winterset. Coach Michael Splavec tells KNIA/KRLS Sports it is great to run at home with more friends and family to watch.

Splavec:
“It’s just nice to have a lot more family to show up. Sometimes mom or day or an aunt or uncle shows up, but everyone can show up and it’s just nice to have all cheering for us.”

The boys field is slightly different with Pella, Pella Christan, Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont, Mount Ayr, Des Moines Chr, and Van Meter. Field events get underway at 4:15 with running events slated to start at 5:00 at the Randy Wilson Track in Knoxville. In other action for Knoxville today, Girls golf travels to Moravia, Boys and Girls Tennis take on Clarke with the boys hosting at the Joel Tonda Tennis Courts in Knoxville, and the Girls Soccer Squad hits the road to Nodaway Valley.
