The Knoxville School Board held the second and third readings of a new policy Monday, requiring that seat belts be worn by all passengers on equipped buses. Superintendent Cassi Pearson says that since all three readings are complete, the bus can now be used, and is currently being used only for activities.

“The new law states that all new school buses must come equipped with seatbelts. It’s required that students and adults, everyone on that bus, must be strapped in just like a vehicle. We’re hoping it’s not going to be much of an issue. We tested them out, and the seatbelts are actually comfortable. The bus that has seat belts installed will only be used for activities at this point. Someday it will be a route bus, but for now, we only have one, and we’re excited to get it on the road.”

The second and third reading of new policies are required in order to take effect.
