Pella Boys, Girls Soccer Win Tight Matches with Newton
The No. 8 Pella boys soccer team defended their home turf against Newton in a 2-0 win to stay perfect in the Little Hawkeye Conference season. Pella was able to withstand an aggressive Cardinals’ attack that had a few close calls to goals. The Dutch were paced by the 11th goal in nine games for Isaac Semini in the first half and Teddy A-post-olo-poulos in the 65th minute off of a corner assist. The No. 8 Dutch are 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
On the road, Pella’s girls were able to take a first half lead with a goal by Abby Warner in the 23rd minute, only to give up a late Newton goal with 1:05 remaining before the final horn, which forced overtime. The Lady Dutch and Cardinals were knotted after one extra period, and Pella’s Roselande Vanderhoff hit the game winning golden goal after regulation. Pella’s girls are 5-1 overall and 1-1 in league competition. Both Dutch soccer teams are at home for non-conference action Thursday; Pella’s boys host Ottumwa at Pella High School, while the girls welcome North Polk at the City of Pella soccer complex.
