One of the positives from the COVID-19 pandemic has been the expansion of tele-health services for counselors and mental health professionals to get Iowa residents the services and help they need without exposure, and often from the convenience of their own homes.

Courtney Ackerson is the President of the Iowa mental Health Counselors Association, and she tells KNIA News with the pandemic likely nearing its end, the Iowa Legislature is working on a bill that will keep the insurance companies from lowering their payments to companies for those providing tele-health services rather than in-person. Ackerson said one thing the pandemic taught us is that healthcare should not be subject to only what was done in the past, and the same services are provided via tele-health as in-person, so the payments should not be lowered.

Ackerson was featured along with Cheryl Garland with Integrative Counseling Solutions on In Depth with Dr. Bob Leonard earlier this week. Listen to the full interview with this story on KNIAKRLS.com.
