Hearthstone, A Ministry of Wesley Life, held a groundbreaking ceremony Friday to celebrate the expansion of The Cottages.

Hearthstone’s Executive Director Nancy Hamilton says the occasion reflects a significant community fundraising campaign to add 36 suites to the campus off of North Main Street in Pella. She says a water-main break caused flooding of Jefferson Place on February 20, 2020, and this new construction will, in part, offset the loss of that facility.

“The good news is, however, that provided we are able to secure the needed private funding, we will continue to honor our Jefferson Place history with a similar model of care with an updated design at The Cottages. We look forward to welcoming back all Jefferson Place residents who would like to return to their homes with us.”

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Vice President of Philanthropy at WesleyLife Chad Vogel announced $2 million had been raised to construct the new facilities, with the goal of moving in residents and staff as soon as the middle of 2022.
