Simpson’s baseball team came away with a series victory over Nebraska Wesleyan, splitting their doubleheader Saturday; the Storm lost game one 6-2, but came back and won game two 6-4.

Game one was a pitching duel for the first four innings between Simpson’s Trey Castille and Nebraska Wesleyan’s Riley Ward. The momentum shifted in the top of the fifth inning when the Prairie Wolves’ Kaleb Knox hit a two-run home run to make a 3-1 game. After that, Simpson never was able to come back outside of scoring a run on a wild pitch in the sixth. Castille picked up the loss, dropping him to 2-3. Noah Sacco went three for three with a double and a run scored.

Game two was an early offensive explosion as Simpson put up six runs in the second and third innings. Of the Storm’s six runs, three were scored on RBI singles from Chris Miller, Ryan Willis, and Sacco. Seven different players had one hit for Simpson. Brady Leonard picked up his first win of the season, while Brett Kauzlarich picked up his second save. Simpson pitching struck out 11 total batters in game two.

The Storm will be back in action for a four-game set at Luther starting with a doubleheader Friday. First pitch begins at 1:00 PM.
