The Knoxville School District has received a donation from Weiler Foundation to aid in the purchase of a CNC Mill for the high school advanced manufacturing class. CNC milling, or computer numerical control milling, is a machining process which employs computerized controls and rotating multi-point cutting tools to progressively remove material from the workpiece and produce a custom-designed part or product. Business Manager Craig Mobley says this will provide valuable learning opportunities for students.
“Sean Sanger, instructor of our advanced manufacturing class has been looking for a CNC Mill. He happened to find one in California from a company that’s going out of business. It’s almost brand new, really good price on it. Weiler stepped up and helped out with a donation, they’re helping with shipping and receiving to get that machine to us. It’s going to be a big help to that program, to get students in front of that new technology.”
The machine costs $22,500, with Weiler Foundation covering $12,500.
