Crowds have already gathered throughout the Pella Community for tulips at their peak bloom and to return to numerous retailers and restaurants after last spring was locked down due to COVID-19.

The Pella Police Department reminds visitors and residents to enjoy the upcoming Tulip Time festival safely. Captain Paul Haase says it’s especially important for drivers near the Central Business District to pay extra attention in the days leading up to the Klompen Classic and the three days of the celebration starting Thursday.

Additionally, Haase reminds any travelers to consider alternate routes and to avoid high traffic roads if trying to pass through, as even Highway 163 is traditionally backed up with visitors coming from the Des Moines area.

Haase says they will stay in close contact with 92.1 KRLS with any traffic updates or concerns, and in case of any emergency of interest to the public.
