With a great showing at the Drake Relays for the Indianola boys track and field team, the squad is ready to use the advantages they gained by competing against the state’s best to help their push for a conference title and for a state meet appearance. Head coach Matt Oliver tells KNIA Sports many of his guys hadn’t had that experience of running at Drake because of the cancellation last year, so this was big.
“A lot of our upperclassman varsity type guys did not have the experience of running up there, so then they come back this year and it’s a new experience for them. Sometimes as coaches we are used to guys having that experience and being in that venue. This was not the case necessarily this year, so it was nice being up there and experiencing that. I think it will be very valuable for us going into the next three weeks as we go into the next three weeks and ultimately hope to go up there and compete for the state meet.”
The Indians will next compete Tuesday at Norwalk for the Little Hawkeye Conference meet.
