The Indianola City Council approved a change in city code regarding electric/motorized scooters, allowing the possibility of what the city is calling “micromobility” in the future. City Manager Ryan Waller tells KNIA News the city was approached by a vendor about the possibility of Indianola adding the services, which the council referred to the Planning and Zoning and Parks and Recreation commissions.

“There is still more to this project and many details to be worked out, but the first thing we had to figure out was how to change to the code to accommodate the new technology, and the council approved the recommendations from the advisory committees.”

The proposal is for micromobility check-out stations to be spread throughout the city such as Simpson College, the downtown square, or parks to help residents or visitors explore more of the city. Waller also said no proposal for the micromobility stations have been considered by the council, this was simply amending the city code to potentially allow an opportunity to possibly take place in the future.
