The Central softball team was in action Friday in Waverly in Day 2 of the American Rivers Conference Tournament. The Dutch opened the day with a 6-1 victory over Dubuque to stay alive in the tournament. Central’s run ended with a 9-4 loss to Nebraska Wesleyan, their second tournament loss to the Prairie Wolves. Central’s season comes to a close with a record of 20-14.
The Dutch baseball team hosted Simpson Friday in the first two games of the season’s final series. The Storm scored on a throwing error with two outs in the top of the seventh, which was enough for a 1-0 win. A late-inning rally was not enough for Central to overcome an early deficit, as the Storm took game 2 5-3. Central Head Coach Matt Schirm says missed scoring opportunities were the story of the day.
Central drops to 13-23 overall and 10-20 in conference play. The teams finish the series with a doubleheader Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
