Another individual champion was crowned and four more all-conference accolades were awarded to the Central College men’s track and field team at the American Rivers Conference Championships Saturday. The Dutch finished fourth in the team standings with 133 points. Wartburg College had a winning total of 247 points.
Brock Lewis secured an individual title with a triple jump of 46 feet, 3.5 inches, a slight improvement of his previous best effort of the season. Nate Sanders came within .39 seconds of winning the 5,000-meter run, placing second in 14:54.51.
After grabbing the last qualifying spot in the 400-meter dash Friday, Nolan Reynolds jumped all the way from eighth to third to earn all-conference accolades in a time of 49.34 seconds.
Reynolds anchored the sixth-place 4×100-meter relay team to a time of 43.06 seconds, running after Joe Stein, Lewis and Carter Tryon. Tryon was also fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (55.77) and Stein was fifth in the 100-meter dash (10.89) and seventh in the 200-meter dash (22.42).
In the pole vault, Tanner Johnson cleared 13-9.25 and took third place. He was also fourth in the javelin throw (158-11), edging teammate Nick Thompson’s fifth-place toss (157-5).
Will DeHaan added an eighth-place finish in the 1,500-meter run (3:55.76) and Noah Jorgenson was also eighth in the 800-meter run.
Reynolds, Grant Boyse , Jorgenson and Tryon were sixth in the 4×400-meter relay (3:19.69).
The Central College women’s track and field racked up four more all-conference efforts at the American Rivers Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday.
As a team, Central closed out the meet in fifth place with 87 points. Loras College was the team champion with 247.5 points.
Kiki Pingel took runner-up honors in the 100-meter hurdles after crossing the line in 14.88 seconds. It was her second all-conference performance of the weekend.
In the 800-meter run, Mari Stein maintained her second-place qualifying spot by taking the silver in a time of 2:18.51.
Holly Forrester landed on the podium with a third-place mark in the triple jump (37-1.25), securing all-conference status.
On a wet, grassy runway Krissa Larson was able to toss the javelin 117-3 to take third and also earn all-conference honors.
Elise Thoreson was sixth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.13) as was Cali Coffman in the pole vault (9-5). Kennedy Morris was also was sixth in the hammer throw 158-2
Chloe Morgan, Forrester, Thoreson and Kasey Pelzer ran the 4×100-meter relay in 51.13 seconds to take sixth place. Pingel, Gray, Abbi Roerdink and Thoreson were fifth in the 4×400-meter relay (4:00.07)
A select group of athletes will compete at either North Central College’s Gregory Invitational or Augustana College’s (Ill.) Twilight Qualifier next Wednesday and Thursday.
