Following regular business, the Pella Police Department will present two different topics to the Pella City Council Tuesday.
A discussion will be held during Policy and Planning regarding UTV/Golf Cart use in the Pella City Limits, and a proposal for a community fundraising project related to a new K-9 unit.
In October, the Pella City Council first discussed regulations related to the use of golf carts on city streets, which is only currently allowed on non-arterial/collector roads, and their use is banned in the Central Business District. Additionally, no part of city code allows UTV use in the corporate limits.
Council will consider whether or not to move ahead with any proposed ordinances, or if they will accept a recommendation from the Pella Police Department and City Administration to avoid making changes unless its part of a broader transportation plan for the entire community, citing potential safety concerns and the continued expansion of the community through development and population growth.
Following the discussion about golf carts, the council will discuss a proposal to begin a community-based fundraising campaign to implement a new K-9 program at the Pella Police Department. The goal is to raise $75,000 to cover expenses related to a new trained dog.
The Pella City Council meeting begins at 6:00 Tuesday evening in the Pella Public Safety Complex, and can be viewed online: https://join.me/CityofPella
