Childcare assistance has become a priority for the US Congress as part of the infrastructure bill proposed by President Biden. Congresswoman Cindy Axne tells KNIA News the Iowa economy is hurting by not having affordable childcare and opportunities for parents who wish to work.

“We have a lot of women in particular in our state that work and a lot that would like to work, but without childcare they cannot get to work. When they can bring a full income into their family it can make all the difference to them. Not just to them but for the whole community. So this could really be a game changer for Iowans when it comes to opportunities to build economic success.”

Axne also said bridges and highways for Iowa currently need a lot of work, with almost 5,000 bridges in dire need of repair and 500 miles of highway in poor condition, and hopefully this bill will help to rectify that.
