The Indianola City Council held a study session after their meeting Monday, reviewing some of the public comments from the City’s public meeting on proposed site plan and zoning updates. City Manager Ryan Waller tells KNIA News the code changes are focused on future projects, and won’t change any of the existing buildings.
“These are regulations that are meant for new buildings, businesses, homes, or uses. There is a criteria if you are going to do a renovation or addition to your house or building, there is a certain percentage amount so if you do X percent of a remodel or rehabilitation of a property, then you have to bring it into compliance with the new regulations. If not, if it is just general maintenance, then the existing regulations would still apply.”
Waller also said many of the changes are to update the codes to reflect new technologies such as solar panels.
