Pleasantville Girls Golf Looks for State Berth at North Mahaska
Pleasantville’s girls golf squad will be looking to clinch a berth in the state tournament as they will compete at the Prairie Knolls Country Club in North Mahaska Monday.
The Trojans are coming off finishing first in their regional meet at home last week, finishing more than 70 strokes ahead of second-place Wayne. Pleasantville will compete against Colfax-Mingo, Danville, Highland, Moravia, New London, Sigourney, and Wayne. If the Trojans finish in the top three, they will advance to the state tournament.
The meet will begin at the Prairie Knolls Country Club at 9:00 AM.
Pleasantville Softball Begins Season With Tough Opponent at Home
Pleasantville’s softball squad will begin the 2021 season at home against Southeast Warren Monday.
The Trojans will look to re-establish their title as conference contender after finishing 7-11 in 2020, which was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The biggest strength for Pleasantville going into the season will be the return of their top two hitters, Josie Sowers and Amber McKinney. As for pitching, Pleasantville will be relying heavily on senior Faith Vanderhart, who posted a 5-6 record with a 5.49 ERA. The Trojans and Warhawks met twice in 2018, with Pleasantville coming away with the series sweep. Jan Haugen tells KNIA Sports that he will be looking for his pitching staff to step up and perform in order to come away with the victory.
“I know they have always been competitive. Pitching will be the key for us. I am confident we can get the ball over the plate, so we will have to see.”
The season will begin at the Pleasantville Softball Field Monday at 7:00 PM.
