Pleasantville Girls Golf Barely Misses Cut, Benge Qualifies as Individual
Pleasantville’s girls golf squad barely missed the cut to qualify for the state tournament finishing third as a team, but Breanna Benge does qualify as an individual, finishing sixth.
The Trojans as a team finished with a score of 403, finishing 11 strokes behind second-place New London. The winner of the district meet was Sigourney. Benge finished with a score of 96, one stroke ahead of the second-place golfer on the Trojans, Kristen Roe, who barely missed the cut with a 97.
The Trojans as a team have finished their season, but Benge will compete in the state tournament next Tuesday at the Ames Golf and Country Club.
Pleasantville Softball Loses Opener to Southeast Warren, Back in Action against Chariton, Baseball Begins Season vs. North Mahaska
Pleasantville’s softball team dropped their opener Monday against Southeast Warren, 7-6, and their baseball team will begin their season against North Mahaska.
The Trojans’ softball team blew a two-run lead in the seventh inning, giving up three runs. Faith Vanderhart pitched a complete game for Pleasantville, giving up seven runs on 11 hits. Vanderhart also finished two for four hitting. Hannah Gibson finished three for four with four RBIs. Mallory McKinney was one for three on the night with a double. The Trojans will look for their first win today playing at home against Chariton.
The Trojans’ baseball team will look to take a step forward towards competing in the West Central Conference after finishing 4-14 in 2020. Even though the team struggled offensively, their strength will be pitching led by the return of Aaron Wilkins, Austin McMillin and Jake DeJoode. This game will be a good litmus test for where Pleasantville is.
Both games will begin tonight at 7:00 PM.
