Twin Cedars Baseball got off to a hot start in the 2021 season opener, as the Sabers cruised past Seymour 7-0 Monday night. Nathan Smith went 2-3 with a triple and two RBI’s. Dallas Smith added a pair of singles with 2 RBI’s. Devin Arkema got the win on the mound after not allowing a hit or run in 5 innings of work and striking out 11 Warrior batters. Head Coach Mark Schroeder said that the pitching would be a key for the Sabers this season.
The Sabers softball team fell in their season opener to Wayne 3-1 Monday night. It was a stalemate until the 7th, until Wayne pushed across 3 runs in the top half of the inning. Grace Bailey responded with a lead off HR in the bottom of the inning. Twin Cedars was then able to load the bases but failed to capitalize on their opportunity, resulting in the defeat. Bailey went all 7 innings in the circle and struck out 8.
Twin Cedars begins Bluegrass Conference play tonight; the baseball team is back in action at 5:30 p.m. against Murray, while softball hosts Murray at 7:30 p.m.
