The Indianola baseball team remained undefeated to start the season Thursday night hosting Fairfield, coming away with a 10-0 5-inning win, while the #4 Indians softball squad suffered a walk-off loss to #3 Waukee on the road 7-6.
The baseball team once again came out of the gates running, with four runs in the first, a run in each of the second and third innings, then a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth to quickly get the game over early. Derek Dittmer got the win on the mound, while Brady Blake went 3-4 with a home run and 3 RBI, and Noah Johnston also hit a home run going 1-2 with a walk.
Head coach Jon Fitzpatrick tells KNIA Sports the Indians have the mindset of learning about each other and the entire team this week, and pick up some momentum going into the rest of the season. The Indians are now 3-0 on the season, and host Des Moines East for a doubleheader this evening.
The Indians softball team was locked in with a talented Warrior squad with little offense for either side until the 7th inning. The Indians got up early 2-0 in the third inning with a two-run bomb from Destiny Lewis, before Waukee tied the score in the bottom of the fourth. With the score tied at 2, the Indians scored four runs on an RBI double from Brynn Ortlund, a two-RBI single from Lewis, and a single from Kylee Tucker to take a 6-2 advantage. The Indians could not hold on to the lead however, giving up five runs in the bottom half of the inning and dropping their first contest of the season to fall to 3-1. They will next hit the field tonight, hosting the Strike Out Cancer game against Southeast Polk.
