A pair of 2-0 baseball teams meet in Norwalk tonight, as the Warriors host Gilbert in a rematch of last year’s Class 3A state title game. Norwalk won that game 8-6 last August, but won’t get the chance to defend that championship after moving to Class 4A. The Tigers earned the #1 ranking in the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association preseason poll, as they return nearly every member of that team. Norwalk head coach Chad Wiedmann expects a tough battle between a pair of talented teams.
Norwalk is 2-0 after sweeping Des Moines Roosevelt Tuesday, while Gilbert has recorded victories over Carroll and North Polk. Tonight’s game will air on the KNIA3 stream with Jon Mohwinkle and Mark Hanrahan calling the action. Pregame coverage begins at 7:15, with the opening pitch from Norwalk at 7:30.
On the other diamond, the 1-1 Warrior softball team will try to bounce back from a close loss to Southeast Polk Wednesday when they host Perry in another non-conference affair. The Jayettes are 0-3 after falling in conference games this week against Carlisle, Boone and ADM. First pitch from the Norwalk softball field is scheduled for 7:00.
