Three Central College track and field athletes competed Friday at the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships to put a bow on the 2021 season.
Kiki Pingel wrapped up the women’s heptathlon with 4,534 points and an 11th place finish. She ended her career with a new personal-best time in the 800-meter run, crossing the line in 2 minutes, 22.46 seconds.
In his national meet debut, Sam Beatty finished in a tie for 13th place in the men’s high jump, clearing the bar at 6 feet, 3.5 inches. He cleared the opening height in one jump but then missed three straight attempts at 6-5.5.
Also making his first appearance on the national scene, Caleb Silver finished the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9 minutes, 38.12 in seconds to place 12th.
Team scores will not be final until the meet is done Saturday night, but Central will be included in the final tally. The men’s team has three points and the women’s team has one, thanks to All-American performances by Brock Lewis in the men’s high jump and Kennedy Morris in the women’s discus throw.
