indianola-3

The Indianola baseball team maintained their undefeated record with a 9-2 win over county-rival Carlisle Monday night in a game heard live on 94.3 KNIA.

The Wildcats started off strong with three straight hits to start the game taking a 1-0 lead, but Indians pitcher Brady Blake settled down to hold Carlisle to just the one run through five innings striking out nine batters. Indianola would tie the score in the bottom of the third with an RBI single from Kael Kolarik, then exploded in the fourth for five runs with RBI hits from Cooper Belt and Blake, and Kolarik stealing home to take a 6-1 lead. Carlisle got a run back in the sixth, but the Indians scored three insurance runs with another Blake RBI hit and a two-run single from Connor Howard. Blake said after the game the success of the pitching staff to begin the season has been the work put in during the winter and spring.

“Coach Fitz had us on a great winter program, had our arms going since way before the beginning of the season. Everyone’s been throwing harder, and we had a great prep period during track season throwing a lot of bullpens. We’ve gotten off to a great start.”

The Indians improve to 6-0 and will travel to Pella Christian on Wednesday to begin Little Hawkeye Conference play in a doubleheader.
