Indianola Girls Soccer Faces Valley in Regional Semifinal
The Indianola girls soccer team has won four of their last six contests coming into the regional semifinal contest tonight after facing absences throughout the season due to COVID-19, but will have their toughest test of the campaign tonight on the road at #1 WDM Valley. The Indians dispatched Ottumwa in the first round of regional play 5-0 last week, but will have to try to overcome a Tigers squad that has only dropped a single contest all season long. The Indians are one of the top shooting teams in class 3A, sixth in shots and tenth in shots on goal percentage, and will need all the offense they can muster against a Valley squad that has the most goals scored in class 3A. Action starts tonight at 6pm at Valley Stadium.
Indianola Baseball and Softball Start Conference Play Tonight
The Indianola baseball and softball teams begin their Little Hawkeye Conference campaigns tonight on the road for a pair of doubleheader games at Pella Christian. The baseball squad has been dominant to start the season with a 6-0 record, and haven’t given up more than three runs in a contest or had a winning margin of less than seven runs, however they will face their first road test of the season as their previous six have all been on their home field.
The #4 in class 5A Indians softball team takes their potent offense against the Eagles, and boasts having seven of the nine regular players in the lineup with a batting average of over .333 and Kate Kralik earned 33 strikeouts over the first week of action. Head coach Stacy Evans tells KNIA Sports the Indians are having patient at-bats against quality teams and pitchers, and right now they are looking for the pitch they want to hit and controlling the pace. Both doubleheaders begin at 5:30pm, and game two of the softball doubleheader can be heard live on 92.1 KRLS, with Andrew Schneider on the play-by-play. Pregame coverage is set to begin at approximately 7pm.
