Indianola Police Chief Dave Button has announced he is retiring after 36 years in law enforcement, effective July 2nd.

Button served as Indianola Police Chief for eight years after serving in the Iowa Department of Public Safety for 28 years, going from a State Trooper to Assistant Director of the Division of Criminal Investigation.

Indianola Mayor Pam Pepper said in a statement:

“The entire community has benefited from Chief Button’s years of service. Not only has he led a high-quality, dedicated police force—he’s also built positive relationships between local law
enforcement and the Indianola community, particularly our city’s youth. I’m deeply grateful for Chief Button’s service and the positive impact he made on our community.”

Indianola Police Captain Brain Sher will serve as Interim Police Chief once the retirement goes into effect.
