A Knoxville man faces felony charges after an incident on May 18th. 31-year-old Mark Tollenaar was a passenger in a vehicle that stopped at the east Casey’s at 6:27 p.m. When the driver went inside, Tollenaar drove away with the vehicle to the 1100 block of Illinois Drive. Tollenaar then sent the driver an electronic notification of the vehicle’s location.

When speaking to officers, Tollenaar stated that the driver had given him permission to operate the vehicle to pick up a friend, while the driver stated that Tollenaar was not granted permission. Upon the return of the vehicle, $2,303 of items were reported missing. It was also discovered that Tollenaar has a barred license.

A warrant for Tollenaar’s arrest was served Saturday. Bond is set at $5,000, and a preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 3rd. Tollenaar faces charges of 2nd degree theft, operating a vehicle without owner’s consent, and driving while barred.
