The names of the individuals involved in the fatal accident this morning on the Mile Long Bridge at Lake Red Rock have been released. According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the driver of the car, identified as Lino Rivera-Reyes of Marshalltown, was pronounced dead at the scene. Life saving measures were attempted by first responders, but were unsuccessful. The driver of the semi, identified as James McElvain of Corydon, was seen by rescue personnel on scene and refused further treatment.
Marion County deputies responded to the scene with Pella Fire and Pella Ambulance at 5:25 a.m. where they found Rivera-Reyes still trapped in a car. Initial investigation determined the car crossed the center line and collided with the semi head-on.
The bridge has since been reopened.
Responding agencies included the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Pella Ambulance, Pella Fire, Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DOT Enforcement and Maintenance and the Marion County Medical Examiner.
