The Pella baseball team aimed to make a statement traveling to No. 1 in 3A Gilbert Tuesday, and may have made their first splash in the 2021 season, knocking off the top-ranked Tigers 4-2 Tuesday afternoon.

An early pair of runs in the top of the first jump started the Dutch upset, coming in a two-out rally early. After the Tigers got to Pitcher Jason Knox for a tally in the 2nd, Pella bounced back with two more two-out runs in the 3rd and 4th. Knox was lifted with two outs in the fifth, with Sophomore Tate Weesner slamming the door shut, pitching 2 ⅓ innings of no-hit ball with two strikeouts to earn his first career save. Ryan Mace was 2-for-3 with 3 runs driven in, with Keegan Hansen and Aidan Pollock each getting a pair of hits and each scoring a run.

Pella improves to 3-2 overall, and travels to Norwalk for a varsity conference doubleheader to begin league play against the defending 3A champions. The Lady Dutch softball team also travels west against the Warriors; hear game two of that twin bill live on 94.3 KNIA.
