A Knoxville man faces felony drug charges after a traffic stop led to his arrest Monday. At 12:19 a.m. Monday, a Knoxville officer performed a traffic stop of a vehicle traveling with excessive speed near the intersection of Highway 14 and Madison Street. The vehicle was driven by 62-year-old Daniel Ray Pope of Knoxville.
While issuing warnings for the traffic offenses, the officer deployed a narcotic detection canine, who indicated the odor of narcotics coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle located a glass pipe with burnt crystalline residue, a plastic baggie with a corner cut off, wax paper with a substance that field tested positive for THC, and 10 plastic bags containing 29.9 grams of a crystalline substance which field tested positive for methamphetamine. Also located was a pill labeled “S489 70mg” which was identified as Vyvanse, a schedule 2 controlled substance.
Pope faces numerous controlled substance charges, as well as methamphetamine trafficking, both felonies. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 10th.
