A Marshalltown man died in a head-on collision on the Mile Long Bridge over Lake Red Rock Wednesday morning. According to the Iowa State Patrol, Lino Rivera-Reyes, 23, was traveling southbound on Highway 14 when he crossed the centerline, and crashed into a Hy-Vee Volvo Semi heading northbound, operated by 62-year-old James David McElvain of Corydon. Rivera-Reyes was trapped after the collision, but was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, according to investigators, and died despite resuscitation efforts. The Iowa State Patrol and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office are handling the investigation. Responding agencies included the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Pella Ambulance, Pella Fire, Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department, Iowa DOT Enforcement and Maintenance and the Marion County Medical Examiner. The road was closed for more than four hours due to rescue, investigation, and cleanup efforts.
