pleasantville-3

Pleasantville’s baseball squad came away with a victory Wednesday night as they held on to a 5-3 victory over Melcher-Dallas while the Trojans’ softball team lost to conference power Van Meter 9-1; Breanna Benge also finished 19th in the 1A Girls Golf State Tournament in Ames.

The Trojans’ baseball squad got a huge boost from Jonah Schumacher, who went two for two with two walks and an RBI. Ben Wicks pitched five innings of shutout baseball, giving up just three hits and struck out three. Pleasantville also showed immense patience at the plate, issuing ten walks.

The Trojans’ softball squad struggled to get anything going offensively, registering just one run on one hit. The only hit came from Mallory McKinney, who had an RBI double in the fourth inning. Van Meter got on Pleasantville pitcher Faith Vanderhart early and often, as Van Meter registered seven runs in the third inning.

Benge scored a 185 in the state tournament, finishing two strokes behind Griswold’s Genevieve Reynolds. Benge scored a 91 in the first round and a 94 in the second round. This concludes Pleasantville’s girls’ golf season.

Both the baseball and the softball squads will be back in action for a doubleheader tonight at home against West Central Conference opponent West Central Valley, with the baseball game beginning at 5:30 PM.
