The home cooking was good for the Pella Christian summer teams on their return to Eagle Lane, with the baseball team snapping a nine-game losing streak with a 7-1 win over Newton, and the softball girls hanging on until the end of an 11-10 win Wednesday evening.
Pella Christian rode the dominant pitching of Micah DeHaan, who struck out 11 Cardinals in 6 ⅔ innings, with Bennett Spronk smashing his fourth home run of the season to generate the offense.

On the softball diamond, the Eagles girls had the winning run in scoring position with two outs in the bottom of the 6th, but narrowly missed a mercy rule win after a fielder’s choice. Newton would surge into the top of the 7th, scoring eight runs before a flyout to left field with the bases loaded ended the contest before Pella Christian could lose the lead. Emri Agre finished 2-for-4 with 3 RBI, with Natalie Harrill and Jarah Morgan each going 2-for-4 as well.
The Eagles baseball team improves to 2-10 overall, earning their first conference win, and the P.C. softball team is up to 9-5 overall and 2-4 against LHC competition. Both teams are off until they welcome Oskaloosa to Eagle Lane Friday for a doubleheader, with game two of the baseball matchup live on 92.1 KRLS.
