The Norwalk baseball team hosted #10 in 3A Grinnell Wednesday in a single varsity contest, and came away with a 3-1 victory, as aired on KNIA3. The Tigers got on the board early, scoring their only run in the top of the first. The Warriors mounted a response with a run scored in the third to tie it up, and a few scoreless frames followed. With two runners aboard in the sixth, senior Casey Greenlee sent a fly ball to the outfield, which was mishandled, allowing the go-ahead runs to score.

Greenlee led at the plate with two base hits. Norwalk pitcher Vinnie Mauro went the distance, giving up just three hits and one walk while striking out six. Norwalk improves to 10-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play. They’ll host Des Moines East tonight.

It was a similar story on the softball diamond, as Norwalk defeated Grinnell by the same 3-1 score. The Warriors tacked on one run apiece in the first, third and sixth innings, while the Tigers only mustered a run in the seventh. Norwalk improves to 9-4 overall and 5-1 in the conference. They return to action Friday at Dallas Center-Grimes for a doubleheader.
