The Central College softball team is again a leader in the classroom as 11 players were named Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes.
The complete national list will be released this fall but the perennially powerful Dutch program has a tradition of academic achievement under NFCA Hall of Fame coach George Wares, ranking in the top 20 in All-America Scholar-Athletes in Division III seven times, including five top-10 academic finishes since 2010. No team was named last year due to the global pandemic and cancelation of the spring championships but Central had a combined 32 honorees in the three previous seasons.
The award recognizes those student-athletes who have posted a 3.50 grade point average or higher in the previous academic year. Central, which has made a record 30 NCAA Division III tournament appearances with four national championships, has had players receive NFCA Scholar-Athlete honors 118 times since 2010.
Center fielder Sara Tallman leads Central as a four-time NFCA honoree. Last year Tallman was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America team. She posted a perfect 4.0 grade point average this past year.
