The Norwalk baseball team was back in Little Hawkeye Conference action for a doubleheader Friday at Dallas Center-Grimes. The Warriors swept a pair of low scoring games 5-3 and 3-2. Norwalk scored the first run of the night in the second inning of game 1 and added another in the fifth, but broke the game open by taking a 5-2 lead in the sixth. The Mustangs began a brief rally in the bottom of the seventh, but the Warriors closed it out.

The Warriors entered the seventh inning of game 2 trailing 2-0, but another resilient final frame allowed Norwalk to score three runs to take the lead, and held DCG off the board in the bottom of the frame. Norwalk moves to 13-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play.

The softball team also came away with a pair of wins, 3-1 and 1-0 in nine innings. Norwalk had a similar story in game 1 of their doubleheader, trailing 1-0 heading into the sixth. But the Warriors came up big in the sixth, scoring the game’s final three runs to take the lead.

It took two extra innings for the first run of game 2 to score, as the Warriors plated the game’s only run in the top of the ninth to come away with a victory and a doubleheader sweep. Norwalk moves to 11-4 overall and 7-1 in the Little Hawkeye Conference.

Both teams have the weekend off, and return to action Monday to host Indianola for single games. Hear the baseball game on 94.3 KNIA and the softball game on KNIA3.
