ORIGINAL POST (4:38 p.m.):
Two people were killed in a crash involving a motorcycle and two other vehicles earlier this afternoon.
A preliminary investigation by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office shows that a white Chevrolet Cruze was northbound on Highway 14 at 1:29 p.m. when it was rear-ended by a black Chevrolet Impala also traveling northbound. The result of this collision caused the Cruze to enter the southbound lane of traffic in front of a southbound motorcycle, which then struck the Chevrolet Cruze. Two riders of the motorcycle were transported to the Knoxville Hospital and Clinics and pronounced dead. A passenger of the Chevrolet Cruze was also transported to Pella Regional Health Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The circumstances of this crash remain under investigation and the identities of those involved are being withheld pending notification of the families. The Marion County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Knoxville Police Department, Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Pella Police Department, Monroe Ambulance, Iowa DNR, Iowa DOT, Knoxville Fire and Rescue, and the Knoxville Township Rural Fire Department.
The road was blocked for three hours, according to the Iowa DOT.
